COKE & FERROSILICON
The Smelting and Alloying Power
of Foundries
Furnaces are the starting point of iron and steelmaking. As Ayhan Steel, we offer Metallurgical Coke (Met Coke), an indispensable reducing agent for blast furnaces and electric arc furnaces, and Ferrosilicon (FeSi) alloys, which give molten steel its final character, in a single integrated supply chain. We maximize the efficiency of your foundry with a guarantee of high carbon and low impurities.
Furnace Coke and Reducing Fuel
Metallurgical Coke, produced by the carbonization of coal at high temperatures (1000°C+) in an oxygen-free environment, is the most important raw material in steel production. It acts both as a tremendous heat source (fuel) to melt iron ore and as a powerful reducing agent that removes oxygen from the ore.
The rates of volatile matter, moisture, ash, and sulfur (S), which reduce furnace efficiency and spoil steel quality, are well below international limits in the coke we supply.
- Low ash and sulfur content for stable furnace operation.
- High mechanical crushing strength resistant to furnace pressure.
Metallurgical Coke (Met Coke) Specification
| Fixed Carbon | Ash | Sulphur | Moisture | Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Min 85.0% - 88.0% | Max 12.5% | Max 0.6% - 0.8% | Max 5.0% - 8.0% | 10-30mm / 30-80mm |
The Lifeblood of Steelmaking: FeSi
Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is the most critical ferroalloy that determines the final quality of steel and cast iron. When added to molten steel ladles, it rapidly binds the oxygen in the steel (Deoxidizer), prevents gas cavities, and stops carbon loss.
At the same time, by adding silicon (Si) to the steel, it extraordinarily increases the hardness, magnetic permeability (for transformer sheets), and corrosion resistance of the material. In cast iron manufacturing, it is an excellent inoculant that triggers the graphite formation vital for the production of ductile iron.
- Granule and lump sizes providing high solubility in the molten ladle.
- High purity, free from Aluminum (Al) and Carbon (C) impurities.
Ferrosilicon (FeSi) Specification
| Product Grade | Silicon (Si) % | Aluminum (Al) % | Carbon (C) % | Standard Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FeSi 75 (Standard) | % 72.0 - % 75.0 | Max % 1.5 - 2.0 | Max % 0.2 | 10-50mm / 50-100mm |
| FeSi 70 | % 68.0 - % 72.0 | Max % 2.0 | Max % 0.2 | 10-50mm / 50-100mm |
